Suicide is a strong risk when someone is depressed. During the initial weeks of treatment, high-risk patients should be supervised closely. Medication should also be part of an overall plan that also includes psychotherapy.

Celexa does not appear to affect most people's ability to drive and operate machinery safely. However, it's a good idea to take care with these activities when first starting to take Celexa until the effects are fully known.

Always be sure to tell a doctor or pharmacist about all the medications currently being taken, even over-the-counter and natural/vitamin products. Medications can sometimes work against each other.

If taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medication for depression within the last 14 days, do not take Celexa without first checking with a doctor. It may not be safe.
